About Destination Journey Photography
About me
Thank you for stopping by! My name is Hugo Jaramillo, and I'm the principal of Destination Journey Photography. I was born in Chile, South America, and I moved to the U.S. in the 1970s to study mechanical engineering. However, life had other plans, and I discovered a passion for photography along the way. Fast forward forty years - I'm now enjoying retirement after a rewarding career as a corporate photographer.
What is Destination Journey Photography
DJP is a service that offers online photography instruction as well as local workshops. In the near future, we will also be expanding to include international workshops across several locations with a focus on astrophotography. DJP will leverage this website, along with our YouTube channel and Facebook page for our services. To ensure we meet the needs of a wider audience, all content will be bilingual, with videos available in both English and Spanish.
How did Destination Journey get started?
This website was born during the 2020 pandemic. During that time, I immersed myself in YouTube photography channels and rediscovered the growing popularity of film photography. Having spent half of my professional career shooting on film before transitioning to digital, I have many valuable insights to share on the topic.
The goal of this site is to offer guidance to photography enthusiasts who enjoy it as a hobby, using whatever equipment they currently have—whether that’s film cameras, digital cameras, or even smartphones. Most of the images in my galleries were taken with cameras that are over 20 years old, many of which you can find online for under $200. Some of the analog samples were captured with a 120-year-old camera, and when properly scanned, they can produce images in gigabyte sizes—not just megabytes!
My focus is on technique, helping you refine your skills so you can get outside and discover a new, easy and enjoyable hobby - photography!
Photography has given me so much, and now it’s my turn to give back.
